Concrete Garage Cladding and New Pitched Roof in Linlithgow

PL Joinery was asked to give this prefabricated concrete garage in Linlithgow a more attractive finish. The garage was in average condition, with condensation beginning to build up inside, and the customer wanted to replace its existing flat roof with a pitched design that would look better and provide improved weather protection. The concrete garage was not suitable for the proposed pitched-roof conversion on its own, so timber framing was introduced as part of the new build-up. The exterior was then finished with treated log-lap timber cladding. Together, the pitched roof and timber finish changed the appearance of the garage, giving it the warmer character of a log cabin. The cladding may add a modest amount of insulation, although this was mainly a visual and weather-protection upgrade rather than a full insulation project. Many prefabricated concrete garages can potentially be clad, but the condition of the existing structure and any proposed roof design need to be assessed first. To help the treated timber retain its colour, it should be recoated with a suitable finish roughly every four to five years.
